'Piece of My Heart'
BUTLER, Pa. -- Tickets are available for all performances of "A Piece of My Heart," a drama about the women who served in Vietnam. Written by Shirley Lauro, the performances at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 325 New Castle Road, will be at 8 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10, and 2 p.m. Aug. 11. Navy legal service
Atty. John E. Tuthill, son of Louis H. and Jacqueline G. Tuthill of Youngstown, was honored at a military retirement ceremony on July 13 in Jacksonville, Fla., for 33 years of service to the Navy's Judge Advocate General's Corps.
Tuthill, a captain in the Naval Reserve, served on active duty as an attorney with the Navy for six years, working as defense counsel and prosecutor, and heading a legal command in Key West, Fla. In 1974, he was qualified as a military judge and presided over court-martial cases on special assignment, mainly aboard aircraft carriers. He was also an instructor on the staff of the Naval Justice School in Newport, R.I.
Tuthill left active duty in 1978 to become a prosecutor with the state attorney's office in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida for Pinellas and Pasco counties and rose to Felony Division director before he left that office for private practice in 1985.
In 1992, he received the Florida Bar's Award of Special Recognition for his leadership in providing legal assistance to Persian Gulf War military families in the Clearwater Bar Association. In 1998, the Florida Bar presented him with its annual Clayton B. Burton Award, its highest honor for the quality of legal assistance rendered to military-related clients.
Born in Scranton, Pa., Tuthill graduated from Girard High School in 1965. He received a bachelor of arts degree in political science and his law degree from Ohio Northern University, graduating cum laude in 1972.
From 1992 to 1995, Tuthill was one of the first two Navy Reservists appointed as appellate judge with the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals in Washington, D.C., and subsequently became the reserve head of litigation for the Navy and the Navy Reserve's chief lawyer for the Southeastern United States in the position of Staff Judge Advocate for the Readiness Command in Jacksonville, Fla. He also served as an adjunct staff judge advocate and ethics adviser at the Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
Tuthill held command seven times in his 33 years of service. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Naval Reserve Medal with 30-year Gold Device, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Hugh Howell Award, the highest award presented by the Navy Judge Advocate General's Office for military legal professionalism.
Tuthill resides in St. Petersburg, Fla., with his wife, Regina. They have two adult children, Robert and Linda, both in Clearwater, Fla.

Navy Seaman Recruit Kenneth A. Parrish, son of Karen Y. and James A. Foore of Hermitage, Pa., graduated from the five-week Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn. Parrish is a 1999 graduate of West Middlesex, Pa., High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Brennen A. Kelly, son of Donita H. and Mark J. Kelly of Warren, graduated from the Communications Signals Collection and Processing Course at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla. Kelly is a 2001 graduate of Howland High School.
PROMOTIONS
Maintenance officer
Devin W. Witt graduated from the six-week, in-resident Air National Guard Academy of Military Science at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, Tenn., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant assigned to a reserve component of the Air Force. Witt is a maintenance officer assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Vienna.
He is the son of David W. Witt of Parma and Constance G. Lodge Witt of Columbiana. His wife, Jaime, is the daughter of Roger D. and Debra J. Zembower of Columbiana. Witt is a 1993 graduate of Columbiana High School and a 1998 graduate of Youngstown State University.
Navy petty officer
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicole L. Richey, daughter of Susan G. Howell of St. Cloud, Fla., and Thomas L. Parcher of Warren, was promoted to her current rank while serving at Naval Station, Ingleside, Texas. Richey is a 1999 graduate of St. Cloud High School.
