NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A campaign to collect unwanted videotapes of movies or shows for veterans' hospitals is under way by U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart of Bradford Woods, R-4th.
Hart's office at the Central Building, 101 S. Mercer St., New Castle, will serve as a collection point through April 30. The videos will be donated to the Aspinwall and Butler VA hospitals. For details, call Hart's office at (724) 654-7972.
Fraud seminar
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County District Attorney Matthew Mangino will give a free seminar on fraud and financial exploitation for senior citizens. The program will be at noon Tuesday at the Hutchison Pavilion in Neshannock Township.
Telemarketing fraud costs Americans $40 billion per year. Those attending the program will receive tips on avoiding telemarketing fraud, sweepstakes scams, home repair fraud, financial exploitation and identity theft. The program is free.
Sports card show
NILES -- A sports card and collectibles show will be at Eastwood Mall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Dwight White, a defensive linemen for the Pittsburgh Steelers' championship teams of the 1970s, will sign autographs Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Cost of the autograph is $10.
First-time home buyers
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Area Urban League will host "Advice for the First-Time Homebuyer that makes dollars and cents," at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St. Guest speaker is Vernard Richberg of Salomon Smith Barney. Shots fired at house
YOUNGSTOWN -- While a family was upstairs sleeping, their house was shot at five times in the 200 block of Carroll Street.
When the homeowner came downstairs after hearing shots Friday morning, she discovered three bullet holes in windows and two in walls. The woman named two possible suspects who she said were involved in an altercation with her son.
Officers found four spent 9mm shell casings on the street in front of the house.
