Sunfest sand piles
YOUNGSTOWN -- Reserve your one-ton pile of sand for the sculpture contest, which is from 1 to 4 p.m. next Sunday at Sunfest in Mill Creek Park's Wick Recreation Area.
The contest is open to individuals, teams and families. Registration is $5. Call (330) 740-7107. Also featured will be crafts for kids, a sand volleyball tournament and a car cruise-in. Local band Vegas will play Top 40 hits at 5:30 p.m., and Motion, a Motown revue from Cleveland, will perform at 7 p.m. Both concerts will be at Judge Morley Pavilion, near the park's ice rink.
'Brigadoon' production
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Three Broadway veterans, one of whom lives in Youngstown, are starring in an upcoming production of "Brigadoon" at Porthouse Theatre, a professional summer theater company. David Vosburgh, founder of Actors' Project of Youngstown, will portray Mr. Lundie; Mary Ann Black of Copley, Ohio, will be Meg Brockie; and Frank Kosik of Sagamore Hills will be Jeff Douglas. Vosburgh and Black are studying for master of fine arts degrees at Kent State University.
Preview night for "Brigadoon" will be Friday, and performances will be Tuesdays through Saturdays through Aug. 11. The outdoor theater is on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, West Steels Corners Road. Call (800) 304-2363 or (330) 929-4416.
