HUBER HEIGHTS -- Brittany Danilov and Tricia Bettura combined to toss a no-hitter as Canfield routed Kenton 21-1 in Saturday's 11-12-year-old Little League state tournament opener.
Danilov had four hits and four RBIs while Christie Cole added two hits and four RBIs for Canfield, the District 2 champion.
Bryanne Halfhill and Kaylie McMurray each had two hits.
Tonight at 8, Canfield plays Tallmadge in a winner's bracket game of the double-elimination tournament.
Hubbard's Mroskiis off to Utah
HUBBARD -- Hubbard High senior Katy Jo Mroski, a member of the Ohio Valley High Performance team, will compete in the Volleyquest Classic this week in Salt Lake City.
Mroski (6-2) is one of 12 players to make the team, which has players from West Virginia, Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Vrigina and Kentucky.
Mroski has received offers from several Division I colleges and is the first area player ever selected to this team.
"It's pretty big time," Hubbard coach Chuck Montgomery said. "These are the best of the best."
The tournament runs Tuesday through Saturday and is played under international rules.
She's the second Trumbull County player to play in Utah this month as Girard senior Tealle Hunkus played in Park City with the Adidas Penn Junior Stars. Hunkus has verbally committed to a scholarship at Duke University.
Campbell Hallplans event
CAMPBELL -- Festivities for the Fifth annual Campbell Memorial Hall of Fame class are slated Sept. 26 at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church on Robinson Road.
Fourteen inductees will be enshrined: Dick Barrett (coach), Ron Bunofsky (baseball), Joe Carano (football), Chester Chwalik (football), Bill Dellick (baseball), Dave Gozur (basketball), Tony Landis (baseball), Ursula Marenkovic (Baker) (basketball), John Martinko (football), Ted Miller (contribution to sports), Ed Norfleet (basketball), Harry Seymour (basketball/track and field), John Sikora (football) and Dr. Frank Yanek (contribution to sports).

Deardurffremembered
MINERAL RIDGE -- A benefit fast-pitch softball game between Boardman's Ohio Magic 18-younger squad and Youngstown's West End team will be played at 8 tonight at Seaborn Elementary School to benefit the Skip Deardurff Scholarship Fund.
Proceeds will go the scholarship created in memory of Deardurff, the local NSA tournament director who died a month ago.
Jim Feret's Magic team features Boardman standouts Laura Amero, Jen Feret, Audrey Martinko, Megan Cunningham and Ashley Didomenico.
Al Toth's West End team features Ali Vitello, Nikki Pierce, Jen Toth, Heather Fink and Ashley Ault.
Line Driveheads south
CINCINNATI -- The Line Drive Academy Little B League team will take on a squad from Kentucky in an eight-team regional baseball tournament, beginning Monday.
Teams of players age 15-16 from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky are in the double-elimination affair.
Players on the Line Drive (23-4) team are Mike Eliseo, John Mang, Matt Madrid, Mark Dalesio, Jay Davis, Rob Fernback, Cameron Cimino, Mike Baharis, Greg Barton, Dimitius Makridas, Pat Elias, Craig Dobos, Adam Solich, Manoli Pahoulis, Adam Zakowski, Joe Skocik, Steve Orlosky, Doug Brown, Mark Tanner and Josh Geric.
Mark Bercik is the manager. Coaches are Mike Zakowski, Tom Elias and Tom Solich.
Thiel hiresSnell as coach
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Mike Snell, an assistant coach at West Liberty State College, has been named men's head basketball coach at Thiel College.
Snell served four season as an assistant coach West Liberty and also had assistant coaching duties at Ohio Valley and Marietta Colleges.
Snell, who will also head the men's tennis team replaces Karel Jelinek who resigned from the post in June.
Big Beavercourse open
BIG BEAVER BOROUGH, Pa. -- BeaveRun MotorSports ComPlex's first track, an .8-mile, 18-turn short course, has opened.
In addition to being a testing and competition course for cars and motorcycles, the track is the centerpiece of the new BeaveRun Karting Center, one of only three karting tracks in the county to meet the specifications of karting's global sanctioning group.
The short track is located adjacent to the first of two BeaveRun road courses, the 1.6 mile North Course.

MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer Raceway Park will put on a Special Family Event Saturday. & quot;Waldameer Wow & quot; will include 200 ticket giveaways to the Erie, Pa. theme park.
In addition to this family night, a complete program of Luxaire Heating & amp; Cooling Sprint Cars, Big-Block Modifieds, New Castle School of Trades Sportsman Modifieds and Butterfield's Pub Stock Cars will be on the card.

Leetonia's Durhamto join Case Reserve
CLEVELAND -- Leetonia High School senior Jacklyn Durham has decided on Case Western Reserve to continue her basketball career.
Durham, a 5-foot-8 guard, averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
She was first-team all-Tri County League and honorable mention All-Ohio.
SOI wins
YOUNGSTOWN, N.Y. -- Kelly Maglis, Katie Frank and Amber Rasmussen each scored a goal as the SOI U-16 girls soccer team won in a shoot-out 3-1 for the championship in the NPSL tournament.
