Goldrush setat Speedway
HARTFORD -- Young race fans will be able to experience their own "Goldrush" tonight at Sharon Speedway.
Prior to the on-track activities during Leonard Truck and Trailer and Adelphia Cable Night, Sharon Speedway officials cover a huge tarp with pennies, nickels and dimes.
Children will be allowed onto the tarp to pick up, pocket and carry as many coins as they can within a set time.
The speedway will hold two Goldrushes -- one for children ages 3-6 and another for those ages 7-10.
Drivers in the Sunburst Environmental Sprint, Gibson-Governor Modified, Burghill Auto Salvage Pure Stock and Coy Brothers E-mod divisions will battle it out on the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at the gate. Reserved seats cost $12 for adults, $7 for kids 12-15 and $2 for children 3-11. General admission prices are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12-15 and free for children 11 and younger.

Girls team winssoccer tournament
NIAGARA, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Premier under-13 girls soccer team defeated the Ontario, N.Y., Waynes Wings 2-1 to win the Niagara Pioneer International Soccer Tournament U-14 Division.
MVP defeated Brockport, N.Y. Blizzards 3-1, the Rochester, N.Y., Greek Eclipse 2-0 and tied Jordan, Ont., Lincoln 1-1.
MVP players were Stephanie Armstrong, Erin Brodell, Jackie Cavalier, Allison Hess, Maureen Malone, Allie Naples, Kelly Reardon, Jill Roemer, Samantha Rohrman, Tori Rumble, Hallie Seiser, Samantha Stanich and Katie Stull.
Berlin Center teenqualifies in discus
BERLIN CENTER -- Alexandra Rathburn, 13, qualified for the nationals in the discus at the Regional Junior Olympic held in Dayton.
Rathburn, an eighth-grader at Western Reserve Middle School, will compete in Omaha, Neb., July 25 in the Youth Girls Division (13-14) of the National Junior Olympic Track & amp; Field Meet.
Rathburn also placed sixth in the Shot Put in the Regional meet. Only the top three competitors from each event are eligible for the National event.
Also competing in the Regional track meet was Kaelyn Hrabak, 13, of Berlin Center. Hrabak, an eighth grader at Western Reserve Middle School competed in the 100, 200 meter dash, and the long jump.
Davidson,Bland qualify
GIRARD -- Amber Bland of Boardman High and Courtney Davidson of Ursuline, members of the Queen City Jaguars U15 AAU basketball team, have qualified for the National at Overland Park Kansas.
The Jaguars defeated the Dayton Lady stars in a basketball tournament in Dayton.
Hubbard hasFun Run, Walk
HUBBARD -- The Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a 5K (3.1 mile) Fun Run and Walk at Harding Park Sunday.
The Fun Run and Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Harding Park, which is located off of state Route 616 in Hubbard. Registration for the runners and walkers participating in the race will be from 7:30-8:15 a.m.
The first 200 participants in the race will receive a free T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three males and females overall and for the top three males and females in the several age groups.
The cost for adults to participate in the Fun Run and Walk is $15 and $12 for youth 17 and under on the day of the race.

Steelers signHaynes to pact
PITTSBURGH -- Rookie fullback Verron Haynes has signed a $1 million, three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Haynes, a fifth-round draft pick from Georgia, is projected to be a backup to starting fullback Dan Kreider.
Browns inkTaylor to deal
BEREA -- The Cleveland Browns signed fourth-round draft pick Ben Taylor to a three-year contract on Friday.
