Jurors are selected in murder case

Tuesday, July 16, 2002

YOUNGSTOWN -- Lawyers will deliver opening arguments in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court arguments today in the case of a man accused in the death of a 29-year-old man in the Victory Annex housing complex. A 12-member jury and one alternate were selected Monday to hear the case against Eddie Bryant, 25, of Cohasset Drive.
He is one of four men accused of murder with a firearms specification in the death of Stephen Shackleford of McBride Street, who was found March 19 outside his home in the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority complex on the East Side.
Also facing murder charges are Armin Moore, 24, of Kendis Circle; and Lorice Moore, 24, of McGuffey Road. An outstanding warrant remains for the fourth suspect, Calvin Moore, 30, no address available.
They were secretly indicted by a county grand jury in March. Bryant and the Moores have been held in the county jail since then. A city police detective has said the men are related.
The trial was postponed last week when defense attorney Mark Lavelle requested the suppression of a photo array that was used by police to identify Bryant. Judge Maureen A. Cronin denied the requests.
