Rifle team competes
Nine members of the Vienna Cougars Junior Rifle Team recently competed at the 2002 Ohio Outdoor Smallbore State Championships at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Chris Keller of Girard took second in the Kriedler Memorial Prone Match, a 1600 point match shot at 50m and 100 yards. Keller scored 1580 with 71 center shots. Keller and three other team members took the portion of the event. Ryan Pearce of Howland had 1545/63, Rob Mokri of Kinsman had 1562/59, and Jon Nicholas of Warren had 1561/57.
Keller also took gold in the 1200-point Three-Position Championship with a 1100/32 score. Nicholas took second place Ohio junior with a 1065/23 and Pearce was third in the same category with a 1034/15. Mokri won first in the subjunior category.
The four team members combined scores to win first place match in the team division.
The four Cougars were also selected to represent Ohio on the first team in the team matches being held at the end of the month at Camp Perry. Other team members Gina Chelira of Hubbard, John Fabijance of Niles, Dustin and Ethan Skidmore of Canfield and Drew Turner of Cortland earned spots on the second team.
The team is sponsored by the Fish & amp; Game Club of Vienna and is coached by Russ Evans of Hubbard, Rodney Hawkins of Liberty and Art Phillips of Girard.
