A longtime Youngstown funeral home now has two locations.

BOARDMAN -- After 90 years of operating in Youngstown, Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home is expanding to the suburbs.
The Yuhasz brothers, funeral home owners, have opened a second funeral home at 5925 Market St. in Boardman.
The South Avenue funeral home, which was built in 1938, will remain in operation.
Patrick Yuhasz said he and his brother, Michael, see the need for two funeral homes. While they still want to serve Youngstown residents, they couldn't ignore the move of so many Youngstown residents to the suburbs in recent years, he said.
They started looking for a site for their second home two years ago and bought the former Whitnauer pharmacy and greenhouse in December. They paid $330,000, according to records at the Mahoning County courthouse.
An open house will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 21 and July 28.
Good location
Yuhasz said he and his brother liked the building because it was on a well-traveled street, had plenty of parking and was mostly open inside, which made remodeling easy.
They have created two chapels inside, including one in the former greenhouse. The windows of the greenhouse have been replaced with stained glass.
Patrick Yuhasz will operate the new funeral home, while his brother will remain at the South Avenue location.
The business was started by the Kubina family in downtown Youngstown in 1911. It later moved to South Avenue near where Ohio Edison is today and then to its current spot near Dewey Avenue in 1938.
Yuhasz said it was the first building in Mahoning County that was built to be a funeral home. Others had operated in large homes.
Louis Yuhasz, father of Patrick and Michael, had been working for Al Kubina when Kubina died in 1960. Louis Yuhasz bought the business in 1961. Patrick and Michael Yuhasz took over in 1970.
