Golden String event
YOUNGSTOWN -- Golden String Inc. will celebrate the renovation and grand opening of the courtyard at its 16 S. Phelps St. office downtown at noon July 16. Golden String is a nonprofit group dedicated to enhancing the lives of people who are mentally retarded or developmentally disabled.
The Youngstown Foundation and the Mahoning County Green Team helped fund the project.
Book signing planned
BOARDMAN -- Sean Barron of Poland will sign copies of his book "There's A Boy In Here" from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Barnes & amp; Noble Booksellers in the Shops at Boardman Park. Barron's book takes the reader though his moving and personal struggle with autism. Barron is a free-lance writer for The Vindicator, attends Youngstown State University and volunteers with Angels for Animals and the OhioReads program for Youngstown City Schools. He has been the featured speaker for a number of charity organizations, including The Rich Center for Autism at YSU.
Fire department's grant
AUSTINTOWN -- The fire department here is receiving a $16,205 grant for training and patient care equipment. The Ohio State Board of EMS awarded the grant. The money can be used for EMT and life-support training. Oxygen tanks, stethoscopes and backboards also can be purchased with the money.
