Slovenefest to start Friday

Sunday, July 7, 2002

SNPJ, Pa. -- SNPJ is a tiny town, but for three days it is transformed into a small city as the Slovene National Benefit Society hosts its annual Slovenefest celebration.
Beginning at noon Friday, SNPJ will begin welcoming the first of its 10,000-plus weekend guests.
This is the Slovene National Benefit Society's 21st annual Slovenefest, and it will feature three days of continuous music performed by 20 of the region's top polka bands.
American-Slovenians from across the country will gather to dance the weekend away and enjoy ethnic food, polka, music and taste of the Slovenian culture.
Slovenefest XXI will be at the SNPJ Recreation Center grounds, 270 Martin Road, Enon Valley, where performances will be featured in four separate venues -- two outdoor stages, an indoor stage and the newly renovated Alpine Room inside the Joseph L. Culkar Building.
Activities include the 46th Miss SNPJ Pageant, at noon Friday, and a variety of children's entertainment. Arts and crafts also will be sold.
Admission is $7 on Friday and $8 on Saturday and Sunday; a three-day pass is $20. Children under 16 are admitted free. Parking also is free.
