Volunteer Services Agency, a United Way Agency, is a local resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages in the Mahoning Valley. It sponsors three programs: the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which helps people 55 and older use their life experience skills in their communities; Volunteer Service to Seniors, which provides assistance and companionship to the elderly living independently in their homes; and the Volunteer Center, which helps people of all ages connect with local nonprofit agencies that need volunteer assistance. Volunteer help is needed for these agencies:
American Red Cross (Blood services): People needed to assist with blood donor registration drive. Orientation and training provided. Volunteers must have the ability to maintain confidentiality.
American Cancer Society: Volunteers needed during business hours to assist with event planning, organization and implementation. People with computer skills immediately needed to assist with data entry.
Antonine Sisters' Adult Day Care: People needed to assist elderly program participants in getting in and out of a van as well as facilitating participation in crafts, bingo, exercise games and other socialization activities.
Associated Neighborhood Centers: Volunteers needed to help with children's summer day camp from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and to ride with the centers' van to assist elderly riders in and out of the vehicle.
Easter Seals of Trumbull County: People needed to from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to perform receptionist duties during the summer. The minimum volunteer time requirement is four hours a week.
Potter's Wheel/Beatitude House: Volunteers needed to tutor women in improving their math and English skills. Volunteer teachers especially needed in August to help women in completing their General Educational Development studies toward a high school diploma.
Who's Who of Youngstown: A person is needed for receptionist/secretarial duties during the day. This person must have computer and bookkeeping skills.
Youngstown City Schools: People needed Aug. 5-15 to assist with teaching, supervision and care of kindergarten and pre-kindergartners enrolled in the city schools' Safetyville program, which is designed to teach children entering kindergarten the dos and don'ts of safety awareness concerning school buses, fires, animals, strangers, guns, assaults, household poisons, playgrounds and traffic. Volunteers will be asked for references and must agree to a background check.
Youngstown State University: People needed July 12-14 to assist in staffing, setting up and tearing down the annual YSU Arts Fair in collaboration with the area arts council. Volunteers particularly needed to staff the children's activities area during the three-day event.
