Jobless rate increasesin Lawrence County
SHARON -- The unemployment rate rose slightly in Lawrence County in December but dropped slightly in Mercer County.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry said the jobless rate in Lawrence rose from 5.6 percent in November to 5.8 percent in December. The labor force stood unchanged at 40,900 but the number working dropped by 100 to 38,500.
In Mercer County, the labor force dropped by 700 to 58,200 while the number working rose by 400 to 55,500.
Whispering Pinesschedules open house
COLUMBIANA -- Whispering Pines Village will have an open house for its new assisted living and independent living center from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 10. There will be tours and the opportunity to meet the staff. Anyone admitted that day will have his or her entrance fee waived and will receive a lifetime membership to the adjacent golf course.
New Walgreens storeplans grand opening
YOUNGSTOWN -- The new Walgreens drugstore at 2560 Belmont Ave. will have a grand opening Feb. 17. The store will carry 20,000 items, including medications, fragrances, cosmetics, greeting cards, soft drinks, dairy products, frozen foods and snacks. Walgreens has 3,620 stores in 43 states and Puerto Rico.
