BROOKFIELD -- Two men were to appear today for preliminary hearings in Eastern District Court, charged with felony counts of burglary, vandalism and theft.
Kinsman Police Chief Leroy Long said relatives of an elderly couple who are vacationing in Florida checked on the home last week and found it broken into and vandalized.
"The couple has been married for 71 years and [the intruders] took some of the things they received as wedding gifts," Long said.
Damage from the vandalism is estimated at more than $1,000, he said.
"They swung from chandeliers and put holes in the walls," the chief said.
The investigation led to Terence Baldwin, 20, of Kinsman-Nickerson Road, Kinsman.
While police were talking to him at his home, the telephone rang and the caller identification device indicated that Aaron Gromley, 18, of Royal Mall Apartments, Niles, the second suspect, was the caller.
Police called Nile police to obtain Gromley's address and arrested him there last week.
The stolen items had been destroyed, Long said.
Gromley was released after posting bond and Baldwin remained in the Trumbull County jail.
Long said detectives from the sheriff's office assisted with the investigation.
