GIRLS BASKETBALL Harding handles Wilson, 57-30

YOUNGSTOWN -- Warren Harding took a 16-7 lead after one quarter on the strength of Leigh Carlson's 10 points as the Raiders notched their fifth win in 13 games, 57-30 over Wilson, in girls basketball Saturday.
After her first-quarter output, Carlson was held to two points the rest of the way against Wilson (1-13).
Desirae Jenkins added 11 points and Sharina Freeman 10 for Harding.
Sophomore Leslie Norwood led Wilson with 14 points. The forward-center also had a team-high eight rebounds.
Wilson (0-4 City) concludes its City Series schedule this week with games against Chaney and Rayen. Five of Wilson's final six games are at home.
Wilson's last game was a loss at Canton Timken after its lone win of the season so far against Youngstown Christian.
Howland 50, Struthers 33: STRUTHERS -- Darcy Quinlan scored all seven of her points in the third quarter, while Marianne Krezeczowski contributed six over the span to help Howland outscore Struthers by 20-2, and the Tigers went on to subdue the Wildcats.
Krezeczowski wound up with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Howland (11-1, 4-1), while Kristy Krezeczowski chipped in with 11 points.
Laura Bell had eight points and seven rebounds and Kristy Marapese eight points to lead Struthers (3-10, 1-4).
Canfield 65, Niles 25: CANFIELD -- Fueled by defensive pressure, Canfield bumped up its 16-9 lead after one quarter to 32-11 at the half as the Cardinals picked up their 11th victory in 15 games by beating Niles.
Canfield (11-4, 4-2 Metro Athletic Conference) caused 23 turnovers and rattled Niles into making just seven of 43 goals in the first MAC meeting between the teams this season.
Cleveland State-bound Erin Martin, a senior guard, had 21 points, while senior guard Nicole Vlajkovich added 14 points and junior point guard Kelly Williams another 10 for the Cards, who out-rebounded the Red Dragons, 29-28.
Michelle Rhodes and Stacia Ray combined for 15 of Niles' 25 points.
Jefferson Area 88, Chaney 43: YOUNGSTOWN -- Kim Stang scored 12 of her 16 points in the second quarter to spark Jefferson area to a 31-9 scoring advantage and a 49-21 lead, and her team held sway over the distance to throttle Chaney.
Alicia Preson plugged three 3-point goals in the second quarter to aid Jefferson Area's uprising, and finished with 10 points.
Alison Czayka added 15 points, Lindsey Piper 12 and Nicole Furman 10 to reinforce Jefferson Area (10-5). Furman and Katie Mabry each had nine rebounds.
Tara Mshar had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Chaney (5-9), while Sumya McElroy added 12 points.
Liberty 43, Brookfield 28: YOUNGSTOWN -- Jessica White scored four of her 12 points in the first quarter when the Leopards (5-9, 4-6 Trumbull Athletic Conference) took a 9-1 lead.
Farrah Rivello added six points and seven rebounds for the Leopards.
Holly Demay scored 12 points for the Warriors (5-8, 3-6).
Leetonia 56, Columbiana 35: LEETONIA -- Sophomore Jessica Deville scored 27 points and had 13 rebounds for the Bears (5-8, 3-4 Tri-County League).
Leetonia has won nine of its last 10 starts. Jackie Durham added 15 points for Leetonia.
Stevie Goist had 14 points and Lindsey Cross scored 10 for the Clippers (5-8, 3-4).
Mineral Ridge 54, Lowellville 39: MINERAL RIDGE -- Tiffany Hack scored 16 points, while Danielle Bako had 14, and both sparked a third-period uprising, to lead Mineral Ridge (8-4, 3-3 Inter-County League).
Hack had eight points in the third, including two 3-point goals, while Bako contributed seven points, as the Rams outscored Lowellville by 21-9. Hack also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Amanda Nero had 16 points and Tami Nero 15 to lead Lowellville.
