South Range beats W.R. to stay close in ICL race

McDonald pulled away from Mathews; Jackson-Milton prevailed.
BERLIN CENTER -- South Range kept in pursuit of the Inter-County League front-runners Friday as Mike Kirk had 25 points and 12 rebounds in the Raiders' 63-49 victory over host Western Reserve.
Jason King of South Range (8-1, 5-1) chipped in with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Raiders enjoyed a 30-25 board advantage.
Greg Speece and Ryan Jones paced the Blue Devils (3-9, 3-3) with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Speece grabbed 11 rebounds.
McDonald 63, Mathews 52: MCDONALD -- Sophomore Nick Testa scored a season-high 34 points, including 13 in the final quarter, for the Blue Devils (5-6, 3-4).
McDonald made 22 of 30 free throws, including 12 of 15 in the final quarter.
Jason Joynes added 12 points for McDonald.
Adam Engelbaugh scored 13 points for Mathews (3-10, 2-5), which led 13-9 after one quarter.
Jackson-Milton 62, Lowellville 52: LOWELLVILLE -- Tim Shaw scored 11 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Blue Jays (5-7, 2-5).
Chad Likens scored 19 points and pulled in 11 rebounds for the Rockets (0-13, 0-7), who led 31-28 at the break.
Nick Rubenstaul added 16 points for the Blue Jays, who led 41-39 entering the final eight minutes.
