NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County Housing Authority's 35 employees will receive a bigger raise than expected.
Housing board members decided to give employees a $1,000 increase in their annual wages instead of an $871 increase that was previously voted on.
Authority members said they made the change because the county's disbursement from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was larger than expected.
The HUD funding is based on performance reviews and the housing authority generally gets about 96 percent of what it applies for, said Robert Evanick, executive director. This year the county will received 99.5 percent of the funding requested, he said.
In other business, the housing authority is reviewing a consultant's proposal to work on its plans to modernize public housing. The authority is looking at a plan that would integrate public and private housing along with commercial uses. The only proposal for consulting services came from Ralph Falbo of Pittsburgh.
