TOWNSHIP TRUSTEES
BROOKFIELD
* Discussed Anthem Health change from a mutual insurance company to a publicly held company, and premium reimbursement to township employees. Trustees said the money should go to the township, not individuals.
* Announced a meeting of the Ohio Storm Water Task Force on Feb. 12 in Youngstown to discuss phase two of storm-water regulations as set by the U.S. EPA.
* Discussed allowing Brookfield Little League to relocate and convert the pavilion now sitting in an area being proposed as a parking lot near field No. 3 to a storage facility.
* Announced a meeting on the Interstate Pymatuning/Shenango Watershed plan Jan. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Kinsman Public Library.
* Reported that a sealer still must be applied on Lincoln Street, which was graded but remains slippery in bad weather. Trustees also said they are continuing to look into placing stop signs at the railroad crossing on Amy Boyle Rd.
CHAMPION
* In a reorganization, appointed Jeff Hovanic as 2002 chairman and Nancy Shafer as vice chairman.
* Retained the law firm of Letson, Griffith, Lavelle & amp; Rosenberg Co. as township counsel.
* Appointed Dennis Steinbeck police chief, replacing retired chief James Sicurro.
* Named Gene Green, Don Campbell, Tom Tracy and Hovanic to the unpaid positions on the audit committee, which helps trustees with recommendations from the state auditor.
* Set the price of the township's comprehensive plan book at $18 per copy.
* Appointed Virginia Pattinson and Ron Thompson to the Fire Dependency Board.
* Reappointed Larry Durch to a five-year term on the zoning board and Gloria Martinek to a five-year term on the zoning board of appeals.
* Set regular meetings for 6:30 p.m., the first Monday of each month at township offices.
* Announced that Champion Junior High School will soon receive recycling containers.
BOARDS OF EDUCATION
CHAMPION
* Appointed Roger Samuelson board president and John Mahan vice president.
* Established regular meetings for 7 p.m., the third Monday each month in the high school media center.
* Approved additional student ski trips to Peek n' Peek Resort on Feb. 2, and Holiday Valley Resort on Feb. 15, both in New York State, on the condition that students get signed permission slips.
* Board member Peigi Tracey pointed out that her son broke a leg on a ski trip and the hospital refused to treat him because he didn't have a parents' signed permission slip to treat him.
* Heard architects Paul Ricciuti and Joseph Makosky of Ricciuti, Balog & amp; Partners of Youngstown discuss and show plans for grandstands, press box and band shell seating at the stadium.
* The board approved the bidding procedure, and bids will be opened Feb. 5.
* Contracts will be awarded Feb. 15. The board expects the project to be completed by Aug. 16.
