Some recommendations
Other recommendations made by the Ohio Board of Building Standards for improved operation of the Mahoning County Building Inspection Department:
Chief building official should recognize his obligation to run the department and not allow inspection staff to assume any portion of his duties.
Where applicable, stop issuing separate approvals for fire suppression and building plans.
Don't issue final approvals for projects unless sprinkler plans have been submitted, reviewed and approved.
Distribute commercial inspections more uniformly among qualified staff members.
Issue adjudication orders and plan approvals separately.
Refer all calls to commissioners office about building inspection department to county administrator.
