Saturday OT shiftsplanned in March at GM
LORDSTOWN -- The General Motors Lordstown Assembly Plant will work overtime on two Saturdays in March to increase the number of Chevrolet Cavaliers and Pontiac Sunfires on dealer lots. Two shifts will work March 9 and March 23.
Tom Mock, a plant spokesman, said GM is increasing production because it intends to place more financial incentives on the cars, fleet sales are increasing, and Cavalier sales in Canada are up dramatically.
The field supply of Cavaliers last month was 104 days, compared with 124 in December.
The supply of Sunfires was 125 last month, compared with 177 in December.
Sharpsville companyfaces infringement suit
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Cattron-Theimeg Inc. is asking a federal District Court in Pittsburgh to find that its remote control system for locomotives does not infringe on any valid claim of a Montreal, Canada competitor.
The competing company, Canac Inc., filed suit in U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Va., accusing Cattron of infringing on two patents related to locomotive remote controls. Cattron's lawsuit argues that the Canac patents are invalid and unenforceable.
Cattron, based in Sharpsville, is the world's largest supplier of portable radio remote control systems.
Informational meetingfor steel-plant workers
ALLIANCE -- Local 2211 of the United Steelworkers of America has scheduled an informational meeting at noon Monday at the Cantell Elks Lodge, 735 Ash St., for employees of American Steel Foundries-Keystone Industries in Alliance.
The plant will close in April.
State senators to attend steel rally
WHEATLAND, Pa. -- Two Pennsylvania senators will be on hand for a "Stand Up for Steel" rally at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at United Steelworkers of America Local 1016 union hall at 107 Broadway Ave.
Sen. Robert Mellow, D-22nd, and Sen. Allen Kukovich, D-39th, will attend the rally to address import relief against steel dumping.
