Stepping stones to remember local war veterans cost $25 to donate.
COITSVILLE -- Coitsville Historical Society members say they need help funding a memorial garden dedicated to local war veterans and those who died during the Sept. 11 attacks.
Dorothy Morse, president of the society, said she'd like to present a completed garden, located on U.S. Route 422 near Begala Street, as a gift to the National Park Service.
Currently at that location is a pavilion from the boyhood home site of William Holmes McGuffey. Sections of the garden were installed Nov. 15.
But Morse said donations are needed to fund care for the garden and installation of a flagpole, six-sided monument and stepping stones remembering local war veterans, public safety officials and other community members who served in any war. Those who lost their lives or were severely disabled during the Sept. 11 attacks may also be remembered on the stones.
Stone donations cost $25.
Donations can be made at any Sky Bank in care of the Coitsville Historical Society. Donors should state which part of the garden they are donating to: perpetual care, flagpole installation or other.
Meeting: A historical society meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coitsville Presbyterian Church to discuss the garden and other society issues. Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome.
