Man struck by vehicle
AUSTINTOWN -- A 21-year-old Austintown man is in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center after he and a 22-year-old woman were struck by a vehicle while walking in a parking lot near South Raccoon Road over the weekend.
The two were struck around 2:11 a.m. Saturday by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Lake Milton man. The injured woman was treated and released.
The accident remains under investigation.
ACLU chief on panel
HIRAM -- Nadine Strossen, president of the American Civil Liberties Union, will participate in a panel discussion titled "Liberty & amp; Security" at 8 p.m. Thursday at Hiram College.
Also on the panel will be Kyle Olson, a leading authority on high-tech terrorism and biological weapons.
The program will highlight the challenges of balancing civil liberties and security issues in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
It will be in Hayden Auditorium.
Child seat inspections
Two Mahoning County jurisdictions will have free child safety seat inspections this month.

Black History programs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Black History Month observance programs at Elizabeth Baptist Church, 7 S. Garland Ave., will be at 10:45 a.m. Sunday with Minister Monica Beesley Martin as the speaker and at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 24 with Deacon Edward Bell speaking.
Jobs for minorities
YOUNGSTOWN -- A community forum on jobs and business will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road. The forum will provide information and discuss a strategy to enable blacks, Hispanics and women to be adequately represented in the Youngstown school construction project.
The forum is sponsored by the Youngstown Area Urban League, Youngstown chapter of the NAACP, Associated Neighborhood Centers, and Youngstown Area Development Corp. Organizations expected to send representatives are the Ohio Equal Employment Opportunity Office and the Cleveland/Cuyahoga Port Authority.
The Urban League says more than 70 percent of the student population is minority and that unemployment in the minority community is more than twice that in the white community.
Milton trustees meeting
LAKE MILTON -- Milton Township trustees will have their regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the town hall. The trustees meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
Backyard conservation
CANFIELD -- The Mahoning County Solid Waste District will sponsor a program called "Hidden Splendor: Uncovering Backyard Bounty" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Mahoning MetroParks Farm on state Route 46. The event is in conjunction with the district's second annual backyard conservation contest and will feature information and speakers on topics such as tree planting, backyard ponds, composting and creation of backyard habitat.
