In another women's game, Thiel handed Grove City its first conference defeat.
NEW WILMINGTON -- South Range High graduate Robin Thayer scored 12 points as Westminster won its sixth straight, beating Waynesburg 84-42 in women's basketball Wednesday night.
Samor Himes and Erica Tallo each chipped in 14 points for Westminster (11-8, 6-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference). Candice Newman had nine points for Waynesburg (7-12).
Thiel 61, Grove City 50: GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Amanda Swanson scored a game-high 20 points as Thiel handed Grove City its first PAC defeat.
Jessica Jenkins scored 11 points for the Wolverines (11-9, 5-1), who shot 30 percent from the floor. Thiel (11-10, 2-3) held Grove City to one field goal during a 10-minute stretch.
Slippery Rock 70, California (Pa.) 60: SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Jackie Altenweg scored 19 points and Stacey Green added 13 as Slippery Rock handed California its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference loss.
Shelbey Wardman added 12 points for Slippery Rock (11-10, 4-4). Susie Gyarfas scored 20 points for California (18-4, 7-1).
Wooster 73, Hiram 66: WOOSTER -- Junior forward Nara DeJesus (Geneva) became the fifth player in Wooster women's history to score 1,000 points in the North Coast Athletic Conference game.
Kristen Rice had 18 points for Wooster (8-13, 3-10) while Terra Roane fired in 22 for Hiram (3-18, 0-13 NCAC).
Baldwin-Wallace 73, Mt. Union 56: ALLIANCE -- Natalie Winkelfoos scored 16 points to lead B-W (15-6, 11-4 Ohio Athletic Conference).
Nikki Scarpitti (Sebring) tallied 18 points for the Purple Raiders (5-16, 3-12).
Allegheny 64, Oberlin 54: OBERLIN -- Jessica Kankoski scored 23 points to lead Allegheny (12-9, 8-5 North Coast). Michelle Popovec and Jamie Parone added eight apiece.
Nzinga Broussard scored 23 points for Oberlin (8-12, 4-10).
Men: NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Ray Robinson scored 17 points to lead visiting Waynesburg past Westminster 68-60.
Rob Strcula added 16 points for Waynesburg (14-7). Greg Foster, an Ursuline graduate, scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Westminster (8-14).
California (Pa.) 67, Slippery Rock 56: SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Ryan Stefanski scored 19 points as California took a 27-18 halftime lead en route to a PSAC win.
Tom Frederick and Ishmieal Kamara each scored 17 points for California (10-4). Bryant Lewandowski scored 21 to lead Slippery Rock (6-15, 1-7).
Thiel 64, Grove City 63: GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Sophomore Justin Townsend (Brookfield) scored on a runner in the lane with 2/10ths of a second remaining in regulation to push the Tomcats (10-12, 4-2) to victory in the Presidents' Athletic Conference game.
Durrell Hackett (Rayen) and Erik Hemsing (Kennedy Catholic) led Thiel with 14 points apiece followed by Eddie Mathews' 12. Ryan Eller made 8 of 8 goals and 6 of 6 free throws for 22 points while Pat Roberts and Andy Vlajkovich (Canfield) each had 10 points for the Wolverines (15-7, 3-2).
Wooster 91, Allegheny 63: MEADVILLE, Pa. -- No. 22-ranked Wooster was a season-high 13 of 24 from 3-point range in the North Coast Athletic Conference game which was its 13th victory in 14 outings.
Overall, the Scots (18-4, 12-1) shot 35 of 67 from the field. Sophomore Rodney Mitchell scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half while teammate Bryan Nelson added 20.
Nick Cantanzarite and Ryan Meerstein had 13 points apiece for Allegheny (10-11, 5-8) which made only 22 of 63 of its shoot shots.
Mount Union 75, Baldwin-Wallace 72: BEREA -- Todd Richards scored 20 points to lead Mount Union, as the Purple Raiders sent Baldwin-Wallace to its fifth straight loss in the Ohio Conference.
Jason Schefft and Shawn McCormick each scored 18 for the Yellow Jackets (5-16, 3-12 OAC). Schefft, a senior guard, surpassed 1,500 points as a B-W player.
Richards was 8-of-11 shooting, and as a team Mount Union (15-7, 10-5) shot at a 53.3 percent pace. The Purple Raiders were 8-of-15 from beyond the arc.
Hiram 87, Denison 77: GRANVILLE -- David Mayle had 32 points and nine rebounds to lead Hiram.
Matt Kertsen added 13 points, Brian Cecil scored 11 and Cory Boyle and Allen Kirkpatrick each had 10 for the Terriers (5-17, 3-10), who outshot the Big Red 58 percent to 42 percent.
Bobby Mehl led Denison (5-17, 5-8) with 20 points. Charlie DeLacey scored 18, Perry Young 12 and Alan Bradshaw 11 for the Big Red.
