BOYS BASKETBALL Canfield surges to 3rd win

Canfield used a pair of spurts to beat West Branch.
CANFIELD -- Scoring surges in the second and fourth quarters were the difference, as the Canfield High boys basketball team turned back West Branch 58-44 in a non-conference game Monday.
The Cardinals (3-4) outscored the Warriors 21-12 in the second quarter, and held a 31-21 lead at intermission. Canfield put the contest away with a 17-9 spurt in the fourth quarter.
Chad Baker took scoring honors for Canfield with 16 points. Karim El Raddaf chipped in with 10. The Cardinals controlled the boards 34-21.
Josh Venable paced the Warriors (2-6) with 10 points. Sam Jones finished with eight.
Warren JFK 66, Howland 60
GIRARD -- The Eagles (6-1) shot 13-for-17 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to win the Girard Holiday Tournament.
Keith Black had 19 points and Luke Vincer 14 points and seven rebounds for JFK.
Scott Day fired in 20 points and Cody Chappell had 11 points and five rebounds for the Tigers (2-4).
Ursuline 69, Girard 55
GIRARD -- The Irish (4-5) built a 33-20 lead by intermission and the Indians (1-6) couldn't recover in the consolation game of the Girard High Holiday Tournament.
Isaiah Poindexter paced the Irish with 21 points. Brandon Braxton added 14 and Brad Bowman finished with 13.
Elliott Steverson paced the Indians with 19 points. Dustin Helle chipped in with 15 and Ryan Collins had 10.
Crestview 75, Lordstown 49
LORDSTOWN -- The Rebels (4-3) put three players in double figures. Troy Duwe led the Crestview attack with 18 points. Joe Sapp added 13 and Chris Cook had 10.
Joe DiEugenio, who connected on four 3-pointers, pace the Red Devils (1-9) with 16 points.
New Brighton 61, Mohawk 51
BEAVER, Pa. -- Four players scored in double figures as New Brighton topped Mohawk to place fifth in the C.J. Betters Holiday Tournament at the Community College of Beaver County.
Shawn Carr sparked the Indians (5-7) with 17 points and eight rebounds. Chris Kwolek chipped in with 15 points and three assists.
