AUSTINTOWN Police, fire pact talks continue

AUSTINTOWN -- Township officials and union representatives have agreed to extend contract negotiations for the township's firefighters and police officers.
Youngstown attorney Dennis Haines, who is negotiating for the police and firefighters unions, said the negotiations have been extended indefinitely. Contracts for the two unions are set to expire tonight. The two unions have a total of about 55 members.
Haines would not say what the firefighters and police are seeking in the pacts. The unions and the township are awaiting a fact-finder's report, he said.
Township Administrator Michael Dockry said negotiations also have been extended with the union representing the police and firefighter's dispatchers. A representative for the dispatchers could not be reached to comment. The dispatchers' contract also expires tonight.
