AREA BASKETBALL ROUNDUPS Howland-JFK to meet for title

Max Slater helped Southington win the Lordstown Holiday Tournament.
GIRARD -- The Howland High basketball team will play Warren JFK in the Girard Holiday Tournament's championship game Monday at 7:30 p.m. Girard and Ursuline will meet in the consolation game at 6 p.m. following Saturday's opening round.
Scott Day had 25 points, Justin Byler 23 and Brandon Kubicina 15 for the Tigers, who made 13 of 21 free throws to three of 14 for the Indians. Elliott Steverson had 18 points, Brian Melik 15 and Todd Prodnick 12 points for Girard.
In the second game, Warren JFK beat Ursuline, 55-52.
Grove City 66, Rayen 43
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Grove City was led by Josh Worthington with 18 points, while Josh Barker added 16. Jabray Graham paced the Tigers with 17 points while Leon Brock added 16.
Akron Central Hower 78, East Liverpool 60
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Unbeaten Akron Central Hower put four players in double figures to defeat East Liverpool in the championship game of the Potters own holiday tournament. East Liverpool was led by Josh Reed with 19 and Roosevelt Kirby with 17.
North Canton Hoover 55, Fitch 52
NORTH CANTON -- Brian Scheller's 3-point goal at the buzzer gave North Canton Hoover High the win. Greg Mayes scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to spark Fitch, while Mark Aikens added 14 points, Terrell Eargle 11 and Jason Aikens 10.
Southington 66, Lordstown 45
LORDSTOWN -- Max Slater shot 4-for-5 from the field and scored 16 points as the Wildcats won the Lordstown Holiday Tournament. David Motz added 14 points for Southington, which led 34-23 at the half. Jason Darocha led Lordstown with 19 points.
McDonald 68, Mineral Ridge 47
LORDSTOWN -- Kevin Stonestreet scored 15 of his 23 points after intermission as the Blue Devils (5-1) won the Lordstown tournament consolation game. Nick Testa also scored 16 points for McDonald. Judson Williamson scored 12 points for the Rams.
Louisville 57, Salem 43
SALEM -- Joe Smith scored 13 points for the Quakers (2-4), who made just 17 of 57 shots. Salem missed all nine of its 3-point tries.
Lisbon 70, Western Reserve 56
LISBON -- Lucian Smith scored 20 points, while Nick Schnader had 15 and nine rebounds for Lisbon (4-2). Mike McDevitt scored 13 points, while Chris Friend had 10. For Western Reserve (3-5), Ryan Jones pumped in 25 points, while Jeremy Shevel had 14.
United 55, Malvern 46
HANOVERTON -- Mitch Phillis scored 16 points and Jason Sidwell tacked on 13 points for United (4-2). United led just 43-41 after three quarters but closed on a 12-5 spurt.
Campbell 61, Elderton 33
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Charles Johnson scored 15 points to lead Campbell past Elderton in the consolation game of the Union Tournament. Andre Ferrell and Jeke Langford each scored 10 points for the Red Devils.
Youngstown Christian 57, Tri-State Christian 43
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mike Byrdy scored seven of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles (4-4) won the Compass Holiday Tournament. Themi Tsarnas added 10 points, while Mike Vitello was in with nine points and six rebounds for the Eagles.
Mogadore Christian 57, Compass Education Center 38
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dan Seymour scored 15 points and Brian McClellan added 10 points for Mogadore. Rob Fortson led Compass with 15 points and Matt Carnes was in with 13 more.
