LAKE MILTON -- The Jackson-Milton boys basketball team recently had a pepperoni roll sale as a fund-raiser to help purchase warm-ups and shoes for their games. Each player donated some of their earnings to the Salvation Army for those less fortunate. The team presented a check for $140 to Capt. David Lyle of the Salvation Army, to purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner for families in need.
Open house scheduled
AKRON -- The University of Akron Law school will hold an open house from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 4 at the school at the corner of Wolf Ledges and University Avenue. Parking is free next to the building.
The program includes sessions on admissions, financial aid, career planning, a mock law class, tours and a student/alumni panel discussion.

Accelerated programs
CANFIELD -- The Malone College accelerated degree completion program will hold informational meetings at 6 p.m. Jan. 8 and Jan. 23 at the Malone College Continuing Studies Center in the Westford Professional Centre, 4137 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Psychologist to speak
WARREN -- Dr. Ray Guarendi, clinical psychologist, will speak at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the John F. Kennedy Catholic High School cafeteria, 2550 Central Parkway S.E. The school and its Parent-Teacher Organization are sponsoring the program.
Dr. Guarendi, who is originally from Akron, is an author, public speaker and radio talk-show host. He has provided training for schools, Head Start, juvenile justice organizations and mental health, substance abuse and inpatient psychiatric centers.
Refreshments will be served.
Collecting for children
EAST PALESTINE -- The East Palestine Middle School Excel Program Community Problem-Solving Team, Helping HEARTS is sponsoring a collection from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 9 to help terminally ill children with the healing process.
The pupils are asking that people bring new or slightly used children's videos, stories on cassette or CD, cassettes and music CDs. Also accepted are portable CD players, boom boxes and children's tape players with attached microphones and headphones. All music equipment must work and be child-appropriate.

Pupil registration
BOARDMAN -- Registration for 2003-04 kindergartners and new pupils to the Boardman Schools is 9 to 11 a.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 9 in each of the four elementary school offices.
The child's custodial parent or legal guardian must be a resident of the district. Pupils must be at least 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 to enter kindergarten; parents must bring a completed registration form and school health record, the child's Social Security card, proof of immunization, an official state birth certificate, proof of residency (tax statement, utility bill, rent receipt, etc.), custody papers if applicable, and a $25 supply fee.

Seeking nominations
COLUMBUS -- The Buckeye Association of School Administrators in conjunction with the Ohio SchoolNet State Technology Conference committee is seeking nominations for 10 individuals to be honored as Ohio's first Technology Leader Superintendents of the Year.
The awards will be announced at the 2003 Ohio SchoolNet State Technology Conference Feb. 3-5 at the Columbus Convention Center.
Nominees must be BASA members, and should be a district leader in technology and provide an environment where learning is greatly enhanced by using technology. Center offers classes
LORDSTOWN -- The Trumbull Career and Technical Center Adult Training Center offers classes in small-engine repair and in intermediate medical insurance coding, beginning in January.
Beginner and advanced small engine classes begin Jan. 13, running 6:30-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through March 24. Cost is $200; call (330) 824-2588 to register.
The new, advanced-level, 81-hour medical coding class, running 6-9 p.m. Jan. 14 to March 17, is for students with a basic knowledge of systems who need preparation for certification exams. Cost is $425, and $85 for books. For information, call Joan at (330) 824-3494.
Computer classes
CHAMPION -- Two computer classes are being offered at Champion High School.
"All About Computers," beginner-level computer classes, will run from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 15 to Feb. 19. "Using Your Computer," for those with some computer knowledge, will run from 6-8 p.m. March 6 to April 10.

Senior to compete
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ta Ree Glenn, a senior at Chaney High School, will represent Mahoning County and the district in the state Voice of Democracy competition.
The state tournament will be Jan. 24 in Sandusky. Students from throughout the state will be competing for a first place prize of $6,000 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to competition in the national competition.
Ta Ree won both the county and district tournaments for the second year.
