HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL Southington's Motz, Slater direct rout over McDonald

Southington will play Lordstown for a holiday tournament title Saturday.
LORDSTOWN -- David Motz and Max Slater combined to score 18 fourth-quarter points as Southington High School used a big second half to turn back McDonald 75-55 in the Lordstown Holiday Basketball tournament Thursday.
In the other game of the tournament, Lordstown handed Mineral Ridge a 77-73 setback.
Saturday, Mineral Ridge will meet McDonald in the consolation game at 6 p.m., followed by Lordstown taking on Southington in the championship tilt at 7:30 p.m.
Nick Testa scored eight of his 21 points in the first eight minutes as McDonald (4-1) took a 16-13 lead into the second quarter.
The game was tied at 24 at the break, but the Wildcats out-scored the Blue Devils 51-31 in the second half.
Motz scored 10 of his 26 points and Slater had eight of his 19 in a 30-point fourth quarter.
Ken McKay scored 12 points for McDonald.
Lordstown 77, Mineral Ridge 73
LORDSTOWN -- In the second half of the game Jason Darocha shot 7-for-7 and scored 20 of his 26 points for Lordstown (1-7).
Tom Andriko scored 14 of his 16 points and added 10 rebounds as Lordstown jumped out to a 37-25 lead at the break.
Pete Saxon scored 14 points and James Rook tacked on 13 points for Lordstown.
Greg Dominic (17 points), Brandon Linert (13), Steve Velte (11), Judson Williamson (11) and Tim Persin (10) contributed for the Rams (0-5).
Laurel 59, Campbell 54
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Mike Burkett scored 27 points and Bobby Turner backed him up with 16 points as Laurel (6-3) won in the Union Holiday Tournament.
Teyon Harris scored 18 points and James Torbert was right behind with 16 points for Campbell (3-4).
Darrin Johnson pulled in 10 missed shots for the Red Devils, who saw a three-game win streak snapped.
Kennedy Cath. 92, Vision Quest 27
FRANKLIN, Pa. -- Dan Harris fired in 19 points as the Eagles (8-1) won in the Franklin Christmas Tournament.
The Eagles burst out to a 20-8 lead after one period and were in control 48-15 by the break.
Roddy Fuller had 14 points, nine rebounds, 11 steals and six assists for the Eagles, while Craig Wellman tacked on 13 points and seven rebounds and Sharron Summerville was in with 11 points.
Girls
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Alicia Barnes had 21 points and 10 rebounds as Laurel defeated Campbell 72-28 in the Union Holiday Tournament.
Tierra McIntosh scored 13 points and pulled in 12 rebounds for the Red Devils (0-9). It was her sixth straight double-double.
Laurel (5-3) scored the first 13 points of the game and led 25-1 after eight minutes.
