BLUE JACKETS Columbus bows to Detroit, 4-2

The Red Wings' fourth line scored two of the team's four goals.
DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Red Wing opponents usually worry about Sergei Fedorov, Nicklas Lidstrom, Brendan Shanahan and Brett Hull.
But it was the fourth line that led the Red Wings to Thursday night's 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It was only on the ice for about 10 minutes, but that was plenty of time as Tomas Holmstrom scored two goals and Boyd Devereaux added an assist. Center Sean Avery didn't have any points but he was just as effective.
"The fourth line gave us a lot of trouble," said Blue Jackets coach Dave King. "They work hard, they have a straight-forward style. It's a pretty good fourth line."
The defending Stanley Cup champions have lost just once in the last 12 games (8-1-3) and are unbeaten in their last six (4-0-2). The Red Wings beat the Blue Jackets 1-0 in Columbus on Monday night.
Sillinger gets both goals
Mike Sillinger scored both goals for the Blue Jackets, who lost their third in a row.
It was Holmstrom's first two-goal game since March 2001.
"We've [the line] been having good chances since a couple of games ago," said Holmstrom. "But we hadn't scored."
Detroit coach Dave Lewis talked about the Holmstrom-Avery-Devereaux combination.
"That line, every game, always seems to be doing something," said Lewis. "They've been strong down low and they haven't been a defensive liability."
Holmstrom explained why the line has been so successful.
"Boyd has great speed and Sean is always digging in the corners," he said. "I like to dig in the corners too, so it's a good mix."
Jason Woolley, who was plus-three, and Hull also scored for Detroit.
Columbus made it 3-2 at 2:03 of the third period when Sillinger tipped in a pass from Geoff Sanderson. The play started when Red Wings defenseman Maxim Kuznetsov lost the puck in his own zone.
Detroit led 3-1 after the first period.
Holmstrom made it 1-0 just 2:50 in when he scored off a rebound. But Columbus tied it on Sillinger's short-handed goal at 8:49.
With Rick Nash serving a double minor for slashing, Sillinger beat Curtis Joseph high on the glove side with a wrist shot from the inside edge of the left circle.
Detroit regains lead
But Holmstrom restored the Red Wings' one-goal lead with 8:52 left in the period. After a turnover in the Blue Jackets zone, Holmstrom scored on a breakaway as he beat Marc Denis with a forehand to the stick side for his seventh goal this season.
Woolley made it 3-1 with 2:15 left in the first period when his one-timer from the inside edge of the left circle beat Denis high on the glove side.
"In the first period, we gave them two really great turnovers that turned into goals," said Sanderson.
Hull, who assisted on Woolley's goal, scored into an empty net with 17.7 seconds left.
Joseph made 25 saves, and Denis stopped 31 shots.
