United Way nears its goal

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County's United Way is getting ready to make one final push to reach its 2003 fund-raising goal.
Executive director Gayle Young said the United Way has reached 91 percent of its $720,000 goal so far.
"We are too close to stop," she said.
Young said they expect to start making telephone calls and sending out mailings after Christmas Day to encourage contributions from those who haven't given yet.
About $60,000 is needed to reach the 2003 goal, she said. Young noted that some companies are waiting until the end of the year to send in contributions, but other donations are still needed.
United Way officials hope to have the fund-raising campaign wrapped up early next year.
The United Way of Lawrence County supports 19 nonprofit agencies including the Boy and Girl Scouts of America, the New Castle City Rescue Mission and the American Red Cross.
