NFL Browns still clinging to the playoff edge

There are a variety of scenarios that could qualify Cleveland for the playoffs.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Living on the edge seems to suit these Cleveland Browns, who have an uncanny knack for taking nearly every game down to the last second.
Or last drive. Or last play.
Cleveland's final regular-season game will be no different. The Browns have now pushed their season to the brink.
"It's how we do things around here," joked offensive guard Barry Stokes. "Sure is exciting, huh?"
With yet another heart-stopping win -- 11 of Cleveland's games have been decided in the final two minutes -- at Baltimore on Sunday, the Browns (8-7) staved off playoff elimination and survived to play another meaningful game.
Scenarios
A win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday could propel the Browns into the playoffs, depending on a variety of scenarios and possibilities that left many Cleveland players scratching their heads on Monday.
"There are so many equations," running back Jamel White said. "I don't understand the playoffs. All I know is I want to go. I don't understand the mathematical part of it."
Einstein might have difficulty sorting through the jumbled AFC playoff picture.
The Browns can no longer win the AFC North following Pittsburgh's 17-7 win Monday night against Tampa Bay.
But there's still the wild card. And wild, it is.
If the Browns beat Atlanta, they could get one of the conference's two wild-card spots if either Oakland beats Kansas City (8-7) on Saturday, or Denver (8-7) beats Arizona on Sunday; and if either Miami (9-6) wins at New England (8-7) or the New York Jets (8-7) win at Green Bay.
Confused? Hang on.
Another scenario
There's also a scenario in which the Browns could lose to the Falcons and still make the playoffs, but that would involve six other games going Cleveland's way and probably a few planets aligning.
Browns coach Butch Davis hasn't bothered dissecting the myriad possibilities.
"The only one I know for certain is that if we don't win, it doesn't make any difference," Davis said.
"We think we have a good chance," Couch said. "We know the main thing is that we have to go out, take care of our business, beat Atlanta and hope for a little bit of help. But we feel like we have a pretty good chance of getting in."
Those chances only exist thanks to Couch.
Despite being out of timeouts, Couch led the Browns on a dramatic, 92-yard drive that he capped with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Mark Campbell with 29 seconds left.
Laid it all out
Before connecting with five receivers on the winning drive, Couch calmly walked into his huddle and laid it all out for his teammates.
"I told the guys, 'This is your season here. We can either go home or we can stay alive and have a chance to play for something next week,"' Couch said.
After saving Cleveland's season, Couch tucked the ball under his left arm and ran off the field at Ravens Stadium, waving goodbye to the Baltimore fans who had taunted him all afternoon.
Couch knows he'll be a target again next season.
"They're going to be looking forward to seeing me next year," he said. "I'm sure that I'm probably not their favorite person, but I don't like them that much either."
