Man faces homicide, DUI charges in crash
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shawn D. Mulhall of Canfield was held in Mahoning County jail overnight on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under the influence after an accident that killed a 70-year-old woman.
Mulhall, 28, of Timberbrook Drive, was to be video arraigned today in municipal court.
Mulhall was traveling east on McGuffey Road when he ran a stop sign at state Route 616 about 3:30 p.m. Monday and crashed his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck into the side of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, killing Lois M. Olson, 70, the front-seat passenger, according to reports. Her address was not available.
The Pontiac, driven by Linda L. Wheeler of Girard, was southbound on state Route 616 when it was struck. Police reported no other injuries.
Mulhall's blood-alcohol concentration registered .201, twice the limit of .10, police reports show. Mulhall submitted to the blood test at St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was taken after the crash.
At the hospital, Mulhall kept repeating, "How much trouble am I in?" and "How much bond do I need?" police said.
Police said three unopened 22-ounce bottles of beer were found in Mulhall's truck.
