Indiana coach Davis could be suspended

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Indiana coach Mike Davis could be suspended for up to six games for violating Big Ten rules by arguing with a referee on court during Saturday's 70-64 loss at Kentucky.
"We will comply with the Big Ten's request and consider all our options," Terry Clapacs, interim athletic director at IU, told The Indianapolis Star for a story Tuesday.
"We're taking this very seriously. I want to re-read the letter a few times and then we will decide what the best response will be," Clapacs said.
Davis charged referee Bert Smith with 2.6 seconds left in the game after Bracey Wright fell after shooting off the side of the backboard, arguing that Wright had been fouled. Smith ejected Davis after he followed him to midcourt, and the Wildcats won 70-64.
Davis apologized after the game.
The Big Ten in a letter to IU charged Davis with violating the conference's policy on sportsmanlike behavior.
Indiana has until Friday afternoon to accept the Big Ten's findings or file an appeal.
If the university accepts the Big Ten's findings, Davis would receive a public reprimand and be suspended from one to six games.
