Hubbard Eagles roll easily past Lakeview Bulldogs, 73-37

HUBBARD -- Hubbard High used a 21-4 burst to start the game and an 18-4 run at the start of the second half in a 73-37 girls basketball rout of Lakeview on Monday night.
Lynle Cornell led the Eagles (8-1, 7-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference) with 18 points. Jami Duvall added 14, Jill Phillips had 12 and Katy Jo Mroski 11. Natalie Sudzina led Lakeview (1-8, 1-5) with 13 points.
After Hubbard blew the game open in the third quarter, about the only suspense was Mroski's attempt to reach the career 1,000-point mark. She ended the game with 996 and will take aim again at 1,000 when the Eagles play host to Salem Saturday afternoon.
Hubbard coach Dave Konczal took Mroski and the rest of his starters out with about six minutes remaining.
"It's too big a risk to leave her in and maybe have her get hurt," Konczal said.
Mroski grabbed eight rebounds and Phillips had seven as Hubbard outrebounded the Bulldogs 36-25. Duvall recorded six steals and five assists. Megan McBride led Lakeview on the boards with eight rebounds.
