COLUMBUS Joseph, Detroit blank 'Jackets

The Red Wings' goalie stopped 33 shots in the 1-0 victory.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Curtis Joseph discarded the cerebral approach.
"Just play. Don't think. Just play," the Detroit goaltender said he told himself prior to stopping 33 goals to make Kris Draper's goal with 4:27 left stand up for a 1-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night.
Joseph had missed the last two games and most of a third since looking shaky in a 6-4 win over Columbus nine days ago. He gave up two goals on 11 shots in his next game and was yanked, with backup Manny Legace in goal the next two games.
Third shutout
The shutout was Joseph's third this season and the 39th of his career.
Brendan Shanahan dug the puck out from the left boards and flipped a wrist shot at Columbus goaltender Marc Denis to set up the goal. Denis, who had 27 saves, blocked the shot but the rebound bounced directly to Draper at the left edge of the crease where he jammed it in for his fourth goal.
"Brendan Shanahan shoots the puck a lot. The puck went on net and we tell our guys to hang around the net," Lewis said. "As it turned out, it looked like a harmless play but Kris Draper was right there. It fell right on his stick."
Shanahan extended his points streak to six games.
The Red Wings are unbeaten in their last five (3-0-2).
After Draper's goal, the Red Wings played keep-away with the puck for much of the next four minutes until Draper was called for obstruction holding with 32.8 seconds left. The Blue Jackets called timeout and pulled Denis to gain a 6-on-4 advantage but they were able to muster only one shot, Joseph turning away Ray Whitney's shot in the final seconds.
A capacity crowd booed the Red Wings -- considered the Blue Jackets' top rival -- when they were announced before the game.
Draper said the emotion stems from the enmity built up from the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry in college football.
"They get excited for this -- all the Buckeye and Wolverine fans getting into this one as well," he said.
