YOUNGSTOWN -- City police are investigating the death of a man found lying in a Tampa Avenue home Saturday afternoon. According to police reports, Juaquin Bell, 23, no address given, was found lying on the floor of 2537 Tampa Ave. at 2:30 p.m. by his girlfriend. Reports say officers found multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Money, drugs, guns and spent casings also were found in the house, reports say.
Charged after bar fight
YOUNGSTOWN -- A bar fight resulted in an assault charge against one man accused of hitting another with a beer mug.
Donald Patterson Sr., no age or address listed, was ordered to appear in municipal court Monday on the charge after police arrested him around 9 p.m. Friday at the Mighty Ducks Bar, East Boston Street.
According to reports, Patterson got into a fight with another man, who told police he was defending his wife, who was tending bar.
Police found broken glass from the mug they believe Patterson used to hit the other man, who was treated at the scene for cuts on his mouth.
Abduction program
HUBBARD -- Escape School, a program about child abduction, will be presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Hubbard Public Library, 438 W. Liberty St. The free program for preschool to middle-school pupils and their parents will be the third offered at the library. Areas that will be covered include being smart, not scared; skills to avoid and escape abduction; how to differentiate between good and bad strangers; common lures used by abductors; and how to get away, escape from a car and get help. The program is sponsored by the library, National City Bank, Wood-Kortright Funeral Homes Inc. and Brookfield Head Start. The presentation is limited to about 75 parents and children. Historian to speak
NILES -- Trumbull County historian Wendell Lauth will speak on the "Harris Automatic Printing Press Co. -- A Niles Success Story" at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 in the auditorium at the Niles McKinley Memorial Library, 40 N. Main St. The program is part of the Famous Niles Residents series, a part of the Ohio Bicentennial celebration by the library and the Niles Historical Society.
Lauth will talk of the company the Harris brothers started at the beginning of the 20th century, the automatic printing press the men invented and how their invention revolutionized the printing industry. The event is free and open to the public.
