Sparks ignite fire at scrap yard



YOUNGSTOWN -- Damage is estimated at $5,000 as the result of a fire in a warehouse in a scrap yard Friday afternoon.
A worker was cutting metal, and sparks ignited magnesium or titanium, which explodes upon contact with water.
Firefighters had to apply foam as they fought the blaze at the Ken Greco Co., 16091/2 Wilson Ave., said Battalion Chief Robert Hian.
There were no injuries in the blaze, which was reported at 1:20 p.m.
Police detoured traffic around fire hoses that stretched across Wilson Avenue.
