Cheerleading contest
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rayen School cheerleading squad won five awards at the 19th annual Festival of Lights Cheerleading Championship. Eighteen girls made up the squad.
Rayen's honors included Most Spirited Team and firsts in Cheer and Chant Division, Music and Pompom Division, Varsity High School USA and Canadian Division and the Grand Champions of Club Junior Varsity/Varsity Division.
The grand champions received a $500 team scholarship, free registration for the 2003 competition and a berth in the national cheerleading championship at Disney World in Orlando in February and March. That event will be televised on ESPN and ESPN2.
YSU cheerleading event
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State University cheerleaders will host a cheerleading competition Jan. 19 at Beeghly Center.
The competition will be broken into high school and middle school divisions. There is a $5 fee for each participant, and T-shirts will be on sale that day.

Admissions director
ALLIANCE -- Clement Liew has been named director for international admissions at Mount Union College.
Liew has bachelor's and master's degrees from Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky., and previously was coordinator of international student services at MSU and officer of international admissions at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
He and his wife, Carol Bing Yu, live in Alliance. They have one daughter.
