WARREN Winning recycling designs announced

WARREN -- Designs by two Trumbull County youths will decorate thousands of school folders to be handed out next year by the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District.
Submissions by Carol Ann Smolka, a ninth-grader at Liberty High School, and Joshua Swipas, an eighth-grader at Edison Junior High in Niles, were selected from 110 entries celebrating America Recycles Day.
As well as having their drawings distributed, they also will each receive a $50 gift certificate to the Eastwood Mall.
The contest was open to seventh to 12th grade pupils in Geauga and Trumbull counties. Winners from Trumbull County will be recognized by the Trumbull County commissioners Thursday.
Second place winners were Stephanie Pentz, an eighth-grader at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Niles, and Angie Kothera, a ninth-grader at Cardinal High School in Middlefield. They will each receive $30 mall gift certificates.
