AUSTINTOWN -- Police are looking for a 15-year-old Timberbrook Drive boy who has been missing since Thursday. Brandon Blanchard is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs about 145 pounds, and has brown hair.
He was last seen wearing jeans, tennis shoes, and a blue, hooded sweat shirt. Reports state that Brandon ran from his home after an argument with his parents about 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Police are asking those with information about Brandon's whereabouts to call them at (330) 799-9721.
Fund for fire victims
MERCER, Pa. -- Donations to benefit the Rudy and Lizzie Wengerd family, who lost five of nine children in a house fire Dec. 3 in Pulaski Township, have reached $24,000.
Rod Loomis of Loomco International and the Mercer Livestock Auction, said a benefit auction Friday at the Hermitage fire station raised $17,000.Earlier donations collected at the Mercer Livestock Auction, where Rudy Wengerd works, brought in $7,000 more, Loomis said.
The money was turned over to the Wengerds on Monday, and additional donations are still coming in, Loomis said.
Citizens coalition
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 7th Ward Citizens Coalition monthly meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Jackson Elementary School, 1813 Windsor Ave.
A brief meeting will be followed by "All That Jazz," a senior variety show by Follies and Friends. The show includes singing, dancing and comedy with orchestra. The public is invited to attend. Free admission and refreshments will be served.
Donation for Kirtz party
AUSTINTOWN -- Board members of the VanSickle Foundation for "R" Kids will give $2,700 to the Leonard Kirtz School on Thursday to pay for a Christmas party for the school's pupils. This is the fifth year VanSickle Foundation has sponsored the Kirtz Christmas party, said David Barton, foundation president.
'Shop With A Cop'
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 141, which represents Mahoning County deputy sheriffs, will have its second annual "Shop With A Cop" program Saturday.
About 30 children and their parents will be driven by limousine from the Salvation Army on Glenwood Avenue to McDonald's at Midlothian Boulevard and South Avenue, where the children will be treated to breakfast.
From there, they will be taken to Kmart in Boardman, where each child will be paired with a uniformed police officer and given $100 to spend on clothes and toys.
Finally, they will be taken to the Cinemark movie theater, where the children will be treated to a movie, popcorn and pop.
YMCA kids programs
NILES -- Trumbull County YMCA Eastwood Branch will be signing up 3- and 4-year-old children for a new basketball program until Dec. 28.
The program will run Saturdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 11 to Feb. 8.
Cost is $25 for YMCA members, $35 for nonmembers. For more information, call Steve Sprockett at (330) 544-2383.
The Eastwood Branch also will have a winter day camp for children in kindergarten through sixth grade from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, 27, 30, 31 and Jan. 2 and 3.
The cost is $12 per day for members, $15 per day for nonmembers, with a discount for multiple children from the same family.
