Maplewood HOF celebration is set



CORTLAND -- Maplewood High School will hold an induction ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Monday for individuals and teams that have qualified for its Hall of Fame over the last year. The ceremony will take place prior to the boys varsity basketball game against Grand Valley.
The inductees are:
* Christen Clemson, a four-year All-Ohio track athlete and one-year special mention All-Ohio in basketball. Clemson was twice state champion in the discus, setting a state record of 157 feet, 1 inch in the 2002 state championships.
* David Pykare, three-year All-Ohio in both track and cross country. Pykare was the state champion in the 1600-meter run in the 2002 state track championships. He also anchored state championship 4x800-meter relay teams in 2001 and 2002.
* 2002 boys track team, finished as state runners-up. Members included Pykare, Dan Palm, Derek Armstrong, Paul Moser, John Palmer, Justin Cibik, Luke Bottorff and Craig Rupe.
* 2002 boys track team 4x800 relay, captured the state championship with a time of 7:55. Team members included Palmer, Moser, Armstrong and Pykare.
* 2002 boys track team 4x400 relay, finished in third place. Team members included Palmer, Cibik, Armstrong and Pykare.
* 2002 boys cross country team, captured the state championship in Division III. Team members were Armstrong, Moser, Palmer, Terry Rush, Rupe, Bottorff, James Hall and Jon Carlson.
