Mink jacket missing from Canfield club
CANFIELD -- A Farmington Circle man said he checked his black mink jacket, worth $7,000, at the Tippecanoe Country Club, and when he went to claim it, the woman at the coat check was gone, as was his jacket. The 50-year-old man reported the theft Monday to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. The theft occurred Saturday during a party, reports show. The deputy's report indicates no suspects at this time.
Heaters reported stolen
CANFIELD -- Three kerosene heaters left over the weekend in a home under construction in the 5000 block of Mission Hills Drive were gone when contractors showed up Monday, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. One heater had been in the basement and two more chained to a cement mixer. The heaters are worth $400 each.
Zoning appointments
AUSTINTOWN -- Two township residents recently were appointed to township zoning boards by the township trustees. Joseph Koch of Mahoning Avenue was appointed to a five-year term on the board of zoning appeals, and Bonnie Sovik of Countryside Drive was appointed to a five-year term on the zoning commission. Both terms began Dec. 9.
Koch replaced Griffith Thomas, who retired after serving 19 years on the board of zoning appeals. Sovik has served on the zoning commission since 2000, when she was appointed to serve the remainder of an unexpired term.
Theft at carwash
CAMPBELL -- An undetermined amount of cash was stolen from the carwash at 960 Struthers-Coitsville Road over the weekend.
A concerned citizen notified police about 8:50 a.m. Sunday after discovering three of the five coin machines at the establishment had been pried open.
Juveniles investigated
YOUNGSTOWN -- After complaining about shots' being fired near his house, an Oak Street man who suspected his son and grandson stole his .38-caliber revolver two months ago allowed police Monday to search a Cadillac the boys work on in his yard. The trunk held a shotgun, rifle, two crossbows and ammunition that matches the description of items taken Sunday from a house burglary on Castalia Avenue, police said. A revolver, shotgun, five rifles and two crossbows were taken during the burglary, police said. The boys, both 17, told police they found the weapons that were in the Cadillac. The case has been assigned to the juvenile division.
