HOWLAND -- Patrolman Richard "Ricky" Martin, 52, a 27-year veteran of the township police department, was discovered slumped over the front seat of his police car shortly before noon Saturday.
He died from a heart attack, the county forensic pathologist has ruled.
The body was discovered after a motorist saw the cruiser idling in front of Bolindale Fire Station on Ridge Road. The motorist called 911, then a Howland police car was dispatched, Police Chief Steve Lamantia said.
Calling hours will be at Roberts-Clark Memorial Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Martin is survived by his wife, Carol, two daughters and one grandchild.
Robbed in parking lot
AUSTINTOWN -- An Austintown man told police he was robbed early Saturday by two men in the parking lot of The Babylon on Javit Court.
The man, 39, of Austintown, told police he was in his car around 2:30 a.m. when two men opened his passenger side door and demanded his wallet.
When he said he had no money, the two robbers punched him in the face. The man said the robbers then took his wallet and ran.
Police noted that the man, who was intoxicated, had a small cut on his lip. The man couldn't describe the robbers.
