At any given time, nearly 70 percent of jail inmates are not serving a sentence; they are "awaiting court action." Some are unable to post bond to get out. Some are sentenced elsewhere but are in county jail for an unrelated case. Here's a sampling, with the start date of their incarceration:
June 29, 2000 -- Kateo Patterson, $200,000 cash or surety bond on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated arson and kidnapping.
Aug. 16, 2000 -- Christopher Stanley, $1.5 million cash or surety bond on charges of attempted murder, rape and aggravated burglary.
Aug. 22, 2000 -- Derek Gibson, $150,000 cash or surety bond on three counts of rape.
April 2, 2001 -- Miquel Velazquez, $100,000 cash or surety bond on a charge of engaging in a corrupt act.
April 9, 2001 -- Mark Parker, $500,000 cash or surety bond on charges of rape, aggravated burglary and kidnapping.
April 25, 2001 -- Damita Lee, $1.5 million bond on charges of aggravated murder, drug abuse and aggravated burglary.
May 18, 2001 -- Terrance Hymes, $200,000 cash or surety bond on charges of robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated robbery and obstruction.
Oct. 12, 2002 -- Emmett Sadler, $7,500 bond, 10 percent permitted, on charges of assault and aggravated menacing.
Oct. 8, 2002 -- James A. Fisher, $2,000 bond, 10 percent permitted, on charges of driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Aug. 10, 2002 -- Louanna Touchton, $5,000 bond, 10 percent permitted, on charges of receiving stolen property and theft.
Dec. 2, 2002 -- Tamika Tucker, $2,000 bond, 10 percent permitted, on charges of obstruction, disorderly conduct and having no license.
