GIRLS BASKETBALL Howland rolls to fourth win
Cardinal Mooney got its third win, while Rayen lost for the first time.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kristy Krezeczowski scored 20 points as Howland High's girls basketball team defeated Chaney, 76-32, to remain undefeated Monday night.
Meredith Schneider added 15 points while Nista Filippidis tacked on 12 points for Howland (4-0).
The Tigers led 24-5 after eight minutes and 43-9 at the break.
Donielle Eldridge led Chaney (1-3) with nine points.
Mooney 47, Struthers 36
STRUTHERS -- Megan Maloney collected 21 points, four assists and three steals to lead Cardinal Mooney (3-1).
Anastasia Vouvalis chipped in with eight rebounds with four points for the Cardinals.
Kourtney Wolfgang had nine points and seven rebounds for Struthers (2-2).
Franklin (Pa.) 46, Rayen 44
YOUNGSTOWN -- A missed field goal shot and two failed free throws allowed Franklin (3-1) to escape with the narrow victory.
Trailing 46-44, Erica Wilson of Rayen (3-2) missed a shot from the floor with 28 seconds to go.
Derricka Logan stole the ball for the Tigers and Ashley Adams was fouled with one second left. Adams, who scored 14 points, missed both foul shots.
Wilson had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Adams scored 14 points, Taniesha Holland had 11 points and five steals while Karen Perkins pulled in eight rebounds for the Tigers.
Fitch 36, Wilson 31
AUSTINTOWN -- Christina Barber and Krista Mayes each scored nine points for the Falcons. Mayes also had 11 rebounds, while Katie White added seven.
Rhonesia Griffin paced Wilson with 11 points.
Salem 78, St. Thomas Aquinas 44
LOUISVILLE -- Sarah Hamilton scored a career-high 22 points on 11 goals and also had four assists to lead Salem (3-1).
Alyson Cotter and Lauren Teal each added 14 points while Tiffanie Heestand had nine for the Quakers, who made 31-for-46 from the field and 15-for-20 at the line.
For St. Thomas (1-5), Megan Monnot had 12 points and Rachele Smith 10.
