VOLLEYBALL Champion, Hubbard and Girard win, all 2-0 in TAC



Lee McLane, Tealle Hunkus and Erin Stevens keyed the Indians past Newton Falls 15-6, 15-6.
NEWTON FALLS -- Lee McLane collected 10 points, four aces and four digs, as Girard defeated Newton Falls 15-6, 15-6 in a Trumbull Athletic Conference volleyball match Thursday.
Tealle Hunkus added 13 kills and six blocks while Erin Stevens had 18 assists for the Indians (4-0, 2-0 TAC).
Sarah Prokop, Molly Lenarcic and Lora Mason each had three points for the Tigers (0-3, 0-2).
Hubbard 15-15, Liberty 0-3: YOUNGSTOWN -- Katy Jo Mroski scored 11 points, with four aces and 15 kills to spark the Eagles (2-0, 2-0 TAC). Monika Rajkovicova added nine points, seven kills and two blocks Pringle had 10 assists. Traci Hassell had five digs.
Sunny Small wood led the Leopards (2-2, 0-2) with three points and three kills. Mary Massaro had five assists. Becki Bruno had seven digs.
Champion 15-15, Badger 2-3: CHAMPION -- Velda Morrison scored 16 points, with eight aces for the Golden Flashes (3-0, 2-0 TAC). Michelle Canatsey had six points, four aces, five digs and two kills. Kelly Meyer had eight assists.
Lakeview 15-15, LaBrae 10-10: CORTLAND -- Michelle Antonelli scored eight points, with eight assists to lead the Bulldogs (1-1, 1-1 TAC). Megan Taylor had 10 assists, five kills and three aces. Heidi Kracker had five kills.
Amanda Gordon sparked the Vikings (0-1, 0-1) with six points, six kills and four blocks.
Boardman 15-15, VA-SJ 11-9: BOARDMAN -- Jen Feret had seven points, seven kills, eight digs, while Jen Hlebovy added seven points, seven kills and six digs.
Jaclyn Corroto also had three points and 11 assists for the Spartans (3-1). VA-SJ, the defending Division III state champions, was opening its season.
Ursuline 8-15-15, Niles 15-8-9: NILES -- Stacia Ray paced the Red Dragons (0-3) with six points and four kills. Ashley Byrom had eight points.
Struthers 7-15-15, Mooney 15-7-10: YOUNGSTOWN -- Wendy Jackson led the Cardinals (0-3) with 30 assists. Michelle Pelini scored eight points, with 18 kills. Petrina Morocco had five blocks.
Amanda Cavanaugh led the Wildcats (2-0) with eight assists. Jacquie Trevis had four blocks.
Howland 15-15, Campbell 3-5: HOWLAND -- Jaime Kelly had eight points, two aces, three kills and two blocks while Brittany Kelly added five assists for the Tigers (2-2).
Also for Howland, Bronwyn Salo had a dig while Stephanie Burns had two blocks.
For the Red Devils, Kristin Grachnin had four points, Candanace Hrelec recorded an ace and Dana Sacui had a kill.
Canfield 15-15, Chaney 9-6: CANFIELD -- Ginny Naples scored nine points, with four assists to pace the Cardinals (2-1). Jill Vertanen had six kills and five points. Stephanie Jarvis had five points, with three aces.
Angela Armstrong sparked Chaney (1-1) with five assists. Jill Kocanyar had eight kills, five digs and eight points.
West Branch 15-15, Marlington 8-7: BELOIT -- Taylor Woods scored six points, with a kill, assist, dig and 11 passes as West Branch won a Northeastern Buckeye Conference match.
Amber Metzgar scored four points, with 10 assists, six kills, four blocks and eight passes for the Warriors (2-0, 2-0). Amy Beth Edie finished with five points, three kills, a save, dig, block and five passes.
Springfield 15-15, Lowellville 0-13: LOWELLVILLE -- Jess Huda scored nine points, with two aces for the Tigers (4-0, 2-0 Inter-County League). Meghan Louttit had six points and 12 assists. Jess Patoray had six digs. Carri Davis had seven kills.
Tami Nero paced the Rockets (0-2) with 11 assists. Kathy Peterson had four digs and two aces. Danielle Hvisdak had five kills and Christa Flora had five kills and four points. Rachel Zimmerman had three blocks.
Western Reserve 2-15-15, South Range 15-13-9: BERLIN CENTER -- Western Reserve gave Melanie Carfolo her first victory as coach, as Jen White scored eight points, with four kills and three blocks for the Blue Devils (1-3, 1-1 ICL). Theresa Polack had five points and 11 kills. Katie Harmon had four points, two kills, three digs and a block.
Jodi James scored 13 points, with 10 digs, 11 kills and seven blocks for the Raiders (2-2, 1-1). Amy Algeo had eight kills and nine blocks.
Mineral Ridge 15-15, Lordstown 5-3: MINERAL RIDGE -- Kerry MacGregor scored nine points with two aces to lead the Rams. Carrie Wilson had 12 assists and two aces. Sam Kisler paced Lordstown with two aces and two kills.
Mineral Ridge 15-15, Maplewood 10-5: MINERAL RIDGE -- Wilson scored 10 points and added 12 assists for the Rams (4-0). Deriana Casado had nine kills and five blocks. Lorissa Proud and MacGregor, who had three aces and three kills, finished with eight points apiece.
Laura Finch scored four points, with two kills and an ace for the Rockets.
Lordstown 15-15, Maplewood 7-12: MINERAL RIDGE -- Alycia Israel scored eight points and she had 14 assists for the Red Devils (1-1). Julie Thompson had five aces.
Jill Pataky and Laura Finch, who had two aces and five kills, had four points apiece for the Rockets (0-2). Jennifer Grayson had five kills and two blocks.
Crestview 15-13-15, United 10-15-5: COLUMBIANA -- Katie Kibby had eight kills, nine blocks and two points while Kate Kestner was in with six kills, four blocks, two aces and 13 points for the Rebels (2-0).
Abbey Fristik also had six kills and 12 points for Crestview. Joel Miller had six kills and 13 digs while Kelly Powell had six kills for United (1-1).
