The health exhibits are presented at the Canfield Fair by representatives of the Mahoning County Medical Society, Corydon Palmer Dental Society, Youngstown State University, and numerous social-service organizations and governmental agencies. Here is a list of booths and the focus of each.
Alzheimer's Association: Safe Return registration; 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's.
Amblyopia and glaucoma screening: Lions Club volunteers will provide amblyopia screening for 3- to 9-year-olds, sponsored by Prevent Blindness Ohio; glaucoma screening for adults.
American Cancer Society: Information on skin cancer; lung machine-robot "Ed-ucation"; information on support groups and office screenings in area; "Mr. Dip Lip" and "Mr. Gross Mouth" for kids.
American Diabetes Association: Recipes; information on diabetes; raffle of gift basket.
American Heart Association: Women, heart disease and stroke.
American Lung Association of Ohio: Smoking cessation and lung cancer.
American Red Cross Mahoning Chapter: Pet first-aid program; IdentiKits -- DNA testing for kids; temporary tattoos for kids; volunteer recruitment.
American Red Cross/Blood Services: Bloodmobile for donations.
Corydon Palmer Dental Society: Antique dental office display; mouth-guard fittings for kids.
Mahoning County Board of Health: "What's Holding You Back" seat-belt campaign; magnets; services provided by the board.
Ohio Nurses Association, District 3: Blood-pressure screening.
Easter Seal Society: Information on preschool children and adult programs.
Eastern Ohio Pharmacist Association: Pharmacists on duty from 6 to 9 p.m. daily to answer questions.
Eastern Regional Kidney Foundation: Prevention of kidney disease; LifeBanc will share booth.
Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Fund: Twinkling brain model to show where epilepsy occurs. Veterinarian Dr. Donald Allen will be in booth Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. to discuss seizures in pets.
Forum Health: Tod Children's Hospital 30th anniversary; information on services to children.
Forum Health Podiatric Residency Program: Ankle and foot injuries; sports medicine.
Hospice of the Valley: Staff and volunteers will talk to young children about hospice; reach out to community.
Humility of Mary Health Partners: Community health education; osteoporosis, heart-health screening, fingerprinting for kids.
Mahoning County Children Services: Decorate with children's posters; train raffle; "STOP child abuse" fans.
Mahoning County Medical Society: "Ask the Doctor," with doctors on duty from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. daily to answer questions.
Mahoning County Mental Health Board: Calendars; information on services available; pocket folders for kids.
Mahoning County Right to Life: "Alive and Growing" models, with addition of black American fetus model.
March of Dimes: Information on prematurity, warning signs of preterm labor, folic acid information and raffle.
Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency: Information on the latest drugs available.
Myasthenia Gravis Foundation: New pamphlets; poster of dog with MG.
Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic: Literature on substance use, abuse and dependency checklist; fans; new information; interactive videos.
Planned Parenthood of Mahoning Valley: Information on services.
Volunteer Service to Seniors: Interfaith caregiving; educating the public on how they can help keep seniors in their own homes.
Youngstown City Health District: "Healthy People -- Healthy Lifestyles" height and weight scales; information on obesity, bioterrorism, and September rabies clinics.
Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center: Semi-soundproof booth for adult hearing screenings; teaching children how to sign names; quiz on how to protect hearing.
Youngstown Litter Control: Information on recycling and mosquito control.
