Rape charge
GIRARD -- A 20-year-old Vienna Township man remains in jail on a $50,000 bond on charges of rape and attempted rape. Michael Hill of Smith Stewart Road was arraigned in Girard Municipal Court Monday. Hill, who did not plead to the charges, will appear for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Wednesday. He is in Trumbull County Jail, also facing a parole violation charge. Police say Hill was at a party at a residence of one of his victims when he attempted to rape a 22-year-old woman and then drugged and sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman.
Packard renovation
WARREN -- Packard Music Hall trustees voted Monday to recommend that a city company be awarded the contract to renovate two rooms there. DSV Builders Inc. of Warren submitted the low bid of $58,475 to renovate the hall's music library and board room. Four companies submitted bids. Trustees voted to recommend to the city's board of control the contract for the two rooms be awarded to DSV. The board of control, which includes the mayor and safety service director, will make the final decision.
Twins remain stable
WARREN -- Conjoined twins born to a Bristolville couple Friday remain in stable condition after exploratory surgery Monday to help surgeons understand the anatomy of the heart the girls share. Doctors at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh used a catheter to get an inside view of the heart. Grant for sewer
LIBERTY -- Trumbull County has been awarded a $454,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Development for the Shannon Road sewer line project. The Shannon Road area is one of about a dozen in the county where the EPA has identified septic problems. The project, slated to begin construction in the spring, will bring sewers to about 161 houses. Other funding for the estimated $3 million project includes $700,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, $650,000 in Issue 2 funds and $300,000 from the Community Development Block Grant program. The balance will be funded by a county bond issue, said Julie Green, a planner at the county planning commission.
