Judge fines 2 lawyersfor failure to appear
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two lawyers who failed to appear in federal court for a hearing July 30 have been fined by U.S. District Judge Peter C. Economus.
The judge fined Canfield attorney Joseph A. Ferrante $200 and Youngstown attorney Mark S. Colucci $750. Ferrante said in court papers that he hadn't received notice. Colucci, who was in Cleveland for the sentencing of ex-congressman James A. Traficant Jr., said he believed he could drive back in time for the afternoon hearing. Colucci has said he represents Traficant's appeal.
While in Cleveland, Colucci spoke to reporters and the event was broadcast and seen by Judge Economus' court staff. The judge said Colucci made the deliberate and willful decision to place a greater value on the interests of one client over the interests of another. The judge said Colucci could have asked that the hearing be reset.
'Cybertour' at library
YOUNGSTOWN -- Reservations are being taken for "Cybertour," a Grant Center program scheduled in the computer center at the Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County's main library, 305 Wick Ave. at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Cybertour will present a brief overview of the Foundation Center's Web site and the various ways it can be helpful to grant seekers looking for information on the Internet.
Grant Center programs are free to representatives from nonprofit organizations seeking information on funding sources and fund raising. Grant information applies to nonprofit organizations only. No information is available for individuals seeking funds.
The main library is a cooperating collection library for the Foundation Center of New York City. The grant center also contains files on local foundations and annual reports.
Reservations can be placed by calling main library at (330) 744-8636, and pressing 2 at the phone prompt for reference information.
Victim identified
YOUNGSTOWN -- The man shot to death Saturday night at the N & amp;N Supermarket has been identified as Bruce Howard, 51, of Austintown. Howard was found just inside the doorway of the store at 1103 Glenwood Ave.
The store owner told police that he heard arguing outside and one gunshot about 8:30 p.m. then saw then victim collapse near the doorway. Howard was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police found no blood outside the store. Police confiscated two handguns found behind the counter.
Bone fragment found
CANFIELD -- City police asked a Mahoning County coroner's investigator to examine a bone fragment found in the yard of a West Main Street man.
The 50-year-old man called police to the home Friday after finding what he thought was part of a human hip bone as he dug a drainage ditch. The bone was found about 3 feet below ground level.
The homeowner told police that his property was once the front yard and garden area of an 1893 homestead and that he also has found a skeleton key, pottery and glass fragments buried in the yard.
Tractor-trailer stolen
HUBBARD -- Township police are investigating the theft of a tractor-trailer from a parking lot at Truck World.
Someone took the 2000 Kenworth truck and 2001 Strick trailer sometime between Sunday night and early today from the complex, located at U.S. Route 80 and state Routes 62 and 7. The truck, owned by Great Lakes Cartage of Hubbard, contained automotive parts.
