Hubbard alumni to honor doctor, schools chief



HUBBARD -- A superintendent of schools and a physician will be honored at this year's Hubbard High School alumni banquet.
The event will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 in Roma Manor.
Richard Denamen, superintendent of Austintown schools, and Dr. Howard Slemons, a Hubbard family physician, will be honored as alumni of the year.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Patton's IGA and Joe Carano's Barber Shop or by calling (330) 534-6031.
Denamen, a 1968 graduate, was senior class president and co-captain of the Eagles varsity basketball team.
Besides being an educator, he was a basketball coach at Austintown, Youngstown State University and for the Youngstown Pride, a team in the former World Basketball League.
He is married to a classmate, the former Marcia Stahura. They have two adult sons, Scott and Brian.
Slemons, class of 1979, was named a first-team selection on the All-Steel Valley Basketball Team, first-team All-Northeastern Ohio and was named Class AAA Player of the Year.
He graduated from YSU and Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He and his wife, the former Audrey Hullihen, also a classmate, have two children, Brooke, 13, and Bo, 10.
