The high school won't be sold this year.
LEETONIA -- The school district will auction Washingtonville Elementary School and property at 10 a.m. Aug. 24.
Superintendent Thomas Inchak said the property on School Street in Washingtonville will be auctioned either as is, with two buildings and property; as property with one building, with the district paying to demolish the older portion; or as vacant land, with the district paying to demolish both the main building and a newer addition.
Inchak said the auction will be by reserve bidding process, with a minimum bid required. The district has the right to reject any or all bids, he said.
Orchard Hill Elementary was demolished soon after school was out for the summer. The area will become the student and visitor parking area for the new school. Inchak said the high school won't be sold this year.
He said football games will continue to be played at the stadium near the high school and the locker rooms in the high school are still needed.
After the Washington Elementary auction, there will be an auction of the unwanted contents of the three buildings at the high school.
Desks and freezers are among some of the items available. Inchak said items for sale are in working order but have been replaced for the new building.
When school starts in the district Sept. 4, the district's nearly 900 pupils will be in a new $17 million facility on Walnut Street.
